Old Freemens RFC

3 - 14

(HT 0-0)

Old Rutlishians RFC

Old Rutlishians robust defence held Freemen’s off to secure victory on the road, as a number of errors meant that the home side remain without a win at Ashtead Park this season.

The Old Boys started strongly with wing, Tom Miers, kicking a penalty in the first quarter following a deliberate knock on. However, Rutlishians displayed a firm determination for the remainder of the first half to claim a convincing 14-3 lead at the break, through two converted tries.

In a dour second half, Freemen’s failed to take advantage of the slope and rain despite creating a number of opportunities. The 50/50 calls seemed to go against the home side, having to fight tooth and nail for each and every piece of possession. A Tom Abraham penalty sailed to the right of the posts early in the second half, so the second half remained scoreless.

A tough home defeat for Freemen’s, failing to claim a losing bonus point, which leaves the side midway in the table. Next week the side travel to Old Haileyburians, at Ruxley Lane, for an important mid table clash.

Team: Moodie I, Crouch (c), Cates, Catlow, Thompson, Auld, Hunter, Bill, Abraham, Wilson, Bell, Haddock, Stanley J, Miers, Duke. subs: Crookall, Van Staaden, Mays
